Permanent magnet synchronous motor

Permanent magnet synchronous motors refer to synchronous motors with permanent magnets embedded on the rotor. A: Among the given motor types: brushless DC motor, Universal motor, PM motor, and servo motor, the universal motor is not normally considered reversible. This is due to their mechanical design considerations such as brush and commutator system.

A: In a DC motor, if the back emf vanishes suddenly (Eb = 0), then the motor circuit will try to retain back emf by drawing more current from the supply. As the back emf vanishes zero, the whole supply voltage appears across the armature and heavy current flows which may burn the armature winding.
